Oxides + color pencils

Hi everyone & welcome to Craftin Desert Divas CREATIVE CHALLENGE and

the topic of this week is "Obsessed with Distress Oxides".

Now, I must confess I don't have many Distress Oxides (not yet, lol).

But I already have few of my fave combos and I used one of them on my cards.

You can also see "color pencils" in the title, well that's because I find combining

Distress Inks/Oxides with color pencils as the best match!

I wanted to make 1 card with my fave Oxide combo, but last minute decided I to do 2 cards

to test out different card stock pieces (ordinary white & watercolor) for the Oxides' blending.

And first thing I did - I cut those pieces using my cutting tool.

Here's the Oxides' combo that I picked for these cards (and my most fave one).

When the "safe from ink" surface was ready I started applying and blending inks (to both simple white and watercolor card stock pieces). I went from lighter color to darker.

Here are both pieces done. Did it make difference applying Oxides to different surfaces? YES! You can notice that watercolor paper blended so much better (color into color), when white simple card stock did blend good too but the blended (middle) part is more obvious.

After both pieces were done I spray some water on top and picked up some color using paper towl. I love this technique and use it almost on every card I make ^_^

Then I moved on to die cutting. I wanted to have poped out parts at both sides of the card so I took the "wavy" looking die and die cut 2 pieces (one bigger - for sentiment) for each card.

After that I stamped the images that I picked for these cards (used two different sets) and moved on to coloring. That's when the color pencils got to do magic!

When coloring with pencils I go from light to dark shades. I also like to pick matching colors (even if sometimes some of them don't look natural - as blue hair).

Here's the finished look.

After coloring all images I stamped the sentiment using VersaFine ink and

my stamping tool right to the pre-cut parts (for each card).

At the very end I cut and folded card bases - one for each card.

All I had to do then was to attach all the parts together using foam tape.

The last moment decision was to stamp little images straight to the background using Memento ink and I am happy I did it, cuz it turned out much better!

Now, here's a close up look of each card.

Hope you liked my cards and the tutorial, and see you next time!
